Very delicious, traditional, and cream based chowder, this soup recipe calls for the standard chowder ingredients: celery, onion, potatoes, clams, diced carrots, and cream. A little red wine vinegar is added before serving for extra flavor of punch in the soup.

Ingredients for Clam Chowder Soup

  • 3 (6.5 ounce) cans of minced clams
  • 1 cup of minced onion
  • 1 cup of diced celery
  • 2 cups of cubed potatoes
  • 1 cup of diced carrots
  • ¾ cup of butter
  • ¾ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 quart of half-and-half cream
  • 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of salt
  • Ground black pepper as per your taste

How to Make Clam Chowder Soup


First of all, drain juice from the clams into a large skillet over the celery, potatoes onions, and carrots. Add the water to cover, and cook over the medium heat until t tender.

Meanwhile, in a large and heavy saucepan, melt the butter over the medium heat. Whisk in the flour until it smooth. Whisk in the cream and stir it constantly until thick and smooth. Stir in the vegetables and clam juice. Heat through, but do not do overheat boil.

Stir in the clams just before serving the soup. If they cook too much they get tough. When the clams are heated through, stir in the vinegar, and season with the salt and pepper.
