Ingredients for Ham and Split Pea Soup Recipe

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • ½ of diced onion
  • 2 ribs of diced celery
  • 3 cloves of diced garlic
  • 1 pound of diced ham
  • 1 bay leaf
  • One pound of dried split peas
  • 1 quart of chicken stock
  • 2 ½ cups of water
  • Salt and ground black pepper as per your taste

How to Make Ham and Split Pea Soup Recipe

  1. First of all place the butter in the large soup pot over the medium-low heat. And stir in celery, sliced garlic, and onion. After that cook slowly until the onions are translucent but not in brown, 5-8 minutes.
  2. After that mix in bay leaf, ham, and split peas. And then pour in water and chicken stock. Stir to combine, and simmer too slowly until the peas are tender and the soup is getting thick, about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Stir it occasionally. Season the soup with salt and black pepper to serve.
