Hello friends, welcome to Smooth Recipe. Today we are going to make Hot and Sour Soup.

This soup is very easy to make and to be enjoyed anytime alone or with friends and family members. Serve it in soup bowls over cooked white or brown rice. You can also tried fried bread crumbs in it.

Hot and Sour Chicken Soup

Ingredients for Making Hot and Sour Soup

  • 8 cups of chicken broth
  • 5 slices of fresh ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon of whole black peppercorns
  • 6 medium (4-1/8″ long)s chopped fresh green onions
  • 1 diced red bell pepper
  • 1 cup of fresh sliced mushrooms
  • ½ cup of bamboo shoots
  • ½ cup of rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons of sesame oil

How to Make Hot and Sour Soup

  1. First of all, in a large cooking pot, add chicken broth, peppercorns, and ginger root bring to boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 18-20 minutes.
  2. Now strain broth; discard peppercorns and ginger root. Return strained broth to the pot. And then add red pepper, green onions, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, powder, rice vinegar, chili and sesame oil. Simmer them until vegetables are just tender, about 10-12 minutes.
