Slow Cooker Bolognese

Hello friends, welcome to Smooth Recipe. Today we are going to make Slow Cooker Bolognese.

This is a very delicious, thick and hearty meat sauce simmered in the slow cooker.

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Bolognese

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 cup of finely chopped baby carrots
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic
  • 1 pound of lean ground beef
  • 1 ½ cups of whole milk, divided
  • ¼ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 ounce) can of tomato paste
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • ¼ cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Directions for making Slow Cooker Bolognese

  1. First of all, heat the olive oil in the large skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir the onion, carrots, and garlic until it tender, for about 8-10 minutes. And then place the ground beef into skillet and cook and stir, breaking up the meat when it cooks, until it browned. Drain off the excess fat from the skillet, and pour in the 1 cup milk. Bring to the simmer, reduce the heat to medium-low flame, and simmer until the milk is absorbed, for about 12-15 minutes.
  2. In the end, place the beef mixture into the slow cooker, and set the cooker to the high. Stir in the crushed tomato paste, salt, tomatoes, pepper, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes, and cook for about 2 hours. Mix in the 1/2 cup milk and Parmesan cheese, stir well, and cook for about 2 more hours.
